Born May 23, 1906, in Sugar Grove, Ohio, he was the son of Anderson Eli & Catherine M. (Breese) Adams.
He married Ruth Kathryn Shumaker on Aug. 18, 1928, in Bowling Green, Ohio. She survives him.
He was employed by Kmart Corp. and retired in 1969 as district manager. In 1962, he had the distinction of managing the first Kmart in the United States, located in Garden City. He loved his family and his work and also enjoyed playing the piano as a hobby.
Surviving, besides his wife, is one daughter, Carole (Ronald) Gohman of Macungie, Pa.; four sons, Harold (Sue) Adams of West Bloomfield; Larry (Glenda) Adams of Acworth, Ga.; Dennis (Sharon) Adams of Quincy, Ill.; and Dr. Damon (Cristina) Adams of Traverse City; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by two sisters, Eileen Shafer and Ruth Snyder; and a grandson John Adams.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Dean Salyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Salvation Army or Interlochen Center for the Arts.
