A lifelong resident of the New Lisbon/Henry County area, Paul has lived in Centerville for the past 2 years. He was a graduate of New Lisbon High School with the class of 1950. His memberships include Centerville Christian Church, New Lisbon Lions Club and New Lisbon Fire Department. He enjoyed old cars and was a 50 year member of MARC-Model A Restorers Club of Fountain City and a 10-year member of the Richmond Model T Club. Paul looked forward to the many car trips he participated in with club members.
Paul and his wife Alice liked to travel and have visited all 50 states. In his leisure, Paul enjoyed restoring Allis Chalmers tractors, old fire trucks and cars. Paul worked hard his entire life as owner/operator of Chew's Excavating Service, school bus driver for the Straughn/New Lisbon communities and a fuel truck driver for Phillip's 66.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, the former Alice Jean Austin, whom he married at the New Lisbon Christian Church on November 22, 1978; six children; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris (Shutz) Chew; daughter, Carolyn McClain; granddaughter, Amanda Chew; one brother, John Chew; and three sisters - Ruth Reynolds, Ruby Linginfelter and Gladys Lee.
Funeral services were at 11 AM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Centerville Christian Church. Reverends Wes Sewell and Terry Cochran officiated the service. Burial followed at New Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation was from 1-5 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin.
