Alberto was born and raised in Brownsville. He enlisted in the Marines 5 June 1962 at the Corpus Christi Recruiting Office, while living in Corpus Christi.
He graduated from the San Diego MCRD Boot Camp 28 October 1962. Alberto served aboard the Seventh Fleet 15 March 1964, during Operation Back Pack off the coast of Taiwan.
Albert arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Anti -Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division. Alberto was driving his Ontos in a convoy in the vicinity of Nam Binn, when the Ontos struck an anti-tank mine, 5 kilometers northwest of Binh Son. He died of multiple extreme wounds to the body.
Alberto was single and served his country for 4 years and 21 days and was KIA#5,121. He was 21 years,7 months and 24 days old.
Survived by his parents, Roberto R and Tiola S Avalos of 1922 East Jackson, Brownsville, Texas and his three sisters, Rosalinda, Gloria and Lenor Avalos of Brownsville and seven brothers: Valentin of Brownsville, Daniel and David of Muscanti, Iowa, Robert of Los Angeles and Enrique of Santa Paula, California, and Reynaldo of Chicago, Illinois, and Sgt Ernesto Avalos with the US Army at Fort Jackson.
