Charlie worked at Bucyrus-Erie for 32 years as a machinist. After the closure of Bucyrus-Erie, he worked at St. James East United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Youth Home as a maintenance man.
He was an active member of St. James East United Methodist Church for 39 years and was a current member of Salem United Methodist Church.
He was an Army veteran, serving three and half years. He attended Army Language School in California, where he learned Polish. After graduation, he was stationed in Germany.
Charlie was an avid woodworker. He shared his talent with many, but specifically he enjoyed doing projects for the church.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Woodruff; daughter, Joyce and husband, Gary Schaar; sons, Alan and wife, Anne Woodruff, and Bruce and wife, Lesa Woodruff; grandchildren, Christen and Jennifer Schaar, Ashleigh and Josh Hernandez, Abigail and Adam Woodruff and Kayla and Haley Woodruff; and sister, Margie and husband, Bob Keller.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 officiated by the Rev. Randy Anderson and Dr. Gary Schaar, with burial at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
