Elmwood Cemetery is located just south of Elmwood, Ontario on the east side of Grey Road 10 in Grey County. It is two cemeteries that share a common boundary: Saint John's Lutheran Cemetery at the north and Elmwood United Church Cemetery at the south.
In about 1889 the Elmwood Mennonite Church acquired land south of Elmwood from William Seiler for a burial ground. In 1948, when the Mennonite Church ceased to function, the cemetery was donated to the Elmwood United Church. In June 2016 the United Church ended and the cemetery was turned over to the United Church of Canada to be held in trust.
Lutherans in the Elmwood area first organized a congregation in 1886. The first Lutheran burial ground was a small part of Chris Engel's farm, further south of Elmwood on the west side of Grey Road 10 in Bruce County, now known as Saint John's Lutheran Pioneer Cemetery. In 1923 more space was needed and the congregation acquired land from Alex Wilson for a new cemetery located immediately north of the Elmwood United Church Cemetery on the east side of Grey Road 10 in Grey County. The extent of Saint John's Lutheran Cemetery is marked by brick columns and a black chain beside Grey Road 10.
