Roy Clifford Anderson, son of the late Otto and Ida (Strong) Anderson was born in 1925 in Grand Forks, ND. In 1937 the family moved to Gatzke, MN where Roy resided until September, 2000 when he retired and moved to Middle River, MN.

Roy was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a long time member of United Lutheran Church of Gatzke and currently a member of First Lutheran Church of Middle River.

He served in the Armed Forces during World War II from November, 1944, to October, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion in Middle River.

Roy married Emma Borreson on November 29, 1950. Together they raised four daughters, Rose (Eugene) Olmstead of Badger; Jean (Tim) Bahr of Bemidji; Sally (Robbie) Carlson of Strandquist and Peggy (Barry) Skoglund of Thief River Falls.

Roy worked for Waage Logging in the late 1950's hauling pulp wood and working in the woods. He then worked for Schenkey Construction for ten years before he began his 23 year career with Polaris Industries in Roseau. Also during this time, he operated a small farm near Gatzke. He served several years on the Moose River Township Board and also the United Lutheran Church Council. Roy, along with his wife Emma, maintained a number of cemeteries in the Gatzke, Middle River and Strathcona communities throughout the years by mowing and trimming. He was a hard worker, a humble and kind man, a great role model and a good friend to many.

Roy received his lifetime high school diploma in the year 2000.

Roy had many interests, one of which was playing the piano. He played at the Senior Citizen Center in Middle River during his last years. As a self taught musician, Roy played piano, guitar, accordion and harmonica. Other interests were square dancing for many years, "old time" dancing, snowmobiling, and wood working. He and his wife, Emma spent nine winters in Harlingen, Texas, where he also played piano at the community center in the "snowbirds" campground.

His biggest joy was spending time with his eight grandchildren; Kendall and Nolan Olmstead, Melissa (Dustin) Keller, Michael (Nicolle) Carlson, Stephanie (Ryan) Eggerud, Stacy (Tim) Granum, Alyssa (Abe) Abrahamson, and Justin Skoglund. Great grandchildren include Cody Swenson, Tabor and Emma Keller, Sydni, Noah and Zophi Eggerud, and Zachary Carlson.

He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mae Borreson, numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Gladys, Lorraine and Hilda; brother in-law Edwin Strong; neice Patricia Bubb; great grandson Jacob Eggerud; brothers-in-law Bennie, Albert and Ingvald Borreson; and sister-in-law Annie Foss.

Roy has resided at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN since Dec. of 2013, and passed away there on Sat. evening, Feb. 8, 2014, at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 13 days.
