Ill 18 months, Harry E. Phillips, 69, of 72 Richard Street, well known South Wilkes-Barre resident and active churchman, died Saturday morning at 6:30 at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre December 9, 1890. A son of the late John and Harriet Davis Phillips. A lifelong City resident, he was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre High School. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War 1, having served as an officer with the Army in France. He had been employed by the W. H. Nicholson Company, Wilkes-Barre, the last 10 years and formerly worked for the Penn Tobacco Company for many years. He was a member of Baptist Tabernacle, Wilkes-Barre, and a trustee of its official board. He was formerly financial secretary of the board and a member of the church choir. Mr. Phillips was also a member of Wyoming Valley Council of Churches and of American Legion Post 132, Wilkes-Barre.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Utter; son, Harry E., Jr., Plymouth; a daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Anderson, New Milford; a brother, Edward, Forty Fort; sisters, Mrs. Ralph Eipper, Dallas; Mrs. Lillian Wentzell, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Beatrice Belles, Philadelphia; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from Luther M. Kniffen Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street, Tuesday at 1:30 p. m. with services at 2 in Baptist Tabernacle, Rev. Earl Kohl officiating. Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 10 p. m.
