George's obituary, which I have transcribed below, states that he was born September 4, 1845, in Davis County. George's death certificate, which may be seen in ancestry.com, also gave his date of birth as September 4, 1845. The birth year on George's stone is 1853.

In the January 1, 1925, Census for Monroe County, Iowa, George stated that his parents were Rees and Susan (Taxon) Sapp.

George is found in the 1860 Census for Marion, Davis County, Iowa, living with his father, Reason, and his mother, Susannah, along with his sisters Elizabeth F., age 10, and Arrena A., age 7; and his brother Reason J., age 7/12.

George's mother Susannah is last seen in the 1880 Census for Union, Appanoose County, Iowa, age the age of 53, living with her husband and sons, John, age 18 and Harrison, age 15.

George married Carrie Edna Mower on November 22, 1896, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

George Sapp, 95, Taken By Death

George W. Sapp, 95, died at his home, 625 West Main street, Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Sapp was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reece Sapp and was born in Davis county September 4, 1845. He had lived in Ottumwa 11 years but in Monroe and Wapello counties most of his life.

Surviving are sons, Eddie, Floyd, Fred and Harold Sapp of Ottumwa; daughter, Mrs. Mary Larson of Kansas City; seven grandchildren, and brother, John Sapp of Blakesburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie, June 13, 1931, and by three daughters, one son and a brother.

Services will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Johnson's funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. V.L. Currier, pastor of the Finley Avenue Baptist church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
