Elijah was son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Shuman) Ashcraft. Elijah acquired 160 acres in Coshocton Co., OH from his father for $10.00. They lived in Coshocton Co., OH until 1831 and moved to Muskingham Co., OH until 1847 when they moved west. They went to Missouri and Iowa and did not like it there, came back to Greene Co., IN. He enlisted in 1861 with Capt. Elijah Edington 43rd Ind. Reg. Co. C. Elizabeth died 12/11/1859 in Greene Co., IN.
