Belva Ann Lockwood Davis was born July 3,1884 in Weston, Nebraska to James Noble Davis and Nellie May Odell.

Belva married Melville Albert Hathaway March 23,1904 in Wahoo, Nebraska after an interesting romance. Belva's brother Alfred was serving in the Spanish-American War in the Phillippine Islands and became ill with Malaria. Belva and Melville continued their correspondence after her brother's death and when Melville returned from the war they were married. The two had never met before, they only knew each other through their correspondence. Belva and Melville had two daughters, Rose Marie and Ada Belva.

Belva married her second husband John Franklin Wright December 27, 1925.

Belva passed away June 3, 1966 in Houston, Texas and she is buried in Forest Park Cemetery next to her daughter Rose Marie.
