She was active in the Democratic presidential campaigns of Michael Dukakis, Bill Bradley and Paul Tsongas and also served as a member of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations. In 1988 she ran unsuccessfully for the United States House of Representatives, losing Rhode Island's 2nd Congressional District to Representative Claudine Schneider. She was professor emeritus of international politics at Brandeis University and also served on the board of directors of PACT, an organization dedicated to reducing poverty, promoting advancements in social and environmental conditions throughout the world. She died from a blood disease at the age of 75.
