Champion Race Horse. The thoroughbred distinguished himself as the winner of both the 1999 Kentucky Derby and the 1999 Preakness Stakes. He was unsuccessful for his bid at the Belmont Stakes that year. The chestnut colt was the offspring of 1999 Preakness Stakes winner Summer Squall and Bali Babe. During the third leg of the "triple crown" in 1999, Charismatic finished third place. After it was revealed the horse had suffered two fractured bones during the race, he was retired and sent to Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan. In 1999, Charismatic won both the Eclipse Award as American Champion Three-Year Old Male Horse and American Horse of the Year honors. During the course of his career, his earnings exceeded two-million dollars. He retired from studding and was moved to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Kentucky where he remained until his death. He died of complications from a broken pelvis.
