For thirteen seasons (1947 to 1949 and 1950 to 1961), he played at the center and right-wing positions in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks. He made his initial impression on the hockey ice during his years with the St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey Association and during the 1945-1946 season, he distinguished himself when he compiled 43 goals, with 32 assists. Known for his tough, physical playing style, Sloan will be remembered for scoring the tying goal during the 1950-1951 Stanley Cup Finals of which allowed for Bill Barilko to score the wining goal in overtime to clinch the series. After he was acquired by Chicago, he experienced a second Stanley Cup title in 1961. In 745 career regular season games, he compiled 220 goals, with 262 assists.
