Passes Away at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis -Funeral Plans Have Not Been Made


Joe Blackwood, 40, owner and operator of the B & W Tire and Battery Shop on South Garrison, died at 2:20 this morning in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Mr. Blackwood had been suffering from osteomyelitis several months and had been there since January 14 and had undergone an operation during that period.
Mrs. Blackwood, her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Jo Blackwood, Guy Blackwood of Carthage and Mrs. C. E. Carr of Ponca City, Okla., were with Mr. Blackwood when he passed away. Guy Blackwood is a brother of Joe Blackwood and Mrs. Carr is Mrs. Blackwood's sister.
Mr. Blackwood was born October 24, 1905 in Mt. Beauty, Ark. He had been a resident here a number of years. In addition to the tire business, Mr. Blackwood was associated with his brother, Guy, in the Blackwood Motors Company.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge, Lions Club and I.O.O.F.
Surviving Mr. Blackwood are his wife, son and brother, all of Carthage, his mother, Mrs. Alice Blackwood of Amarillo, Texas and four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Holt, Mrs. Edith Thomas and Mrs. Pauline Giersch all of Amarillo, and Mrs. Jimmie McLaughlin of Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Alice Blackwood has been in Carthage the last two weeks.
The body is being brought to Carthage by the Ulmers.
