Singer, Songwriter. He began his career in the 1950s as a songwriter on Columbia Records Hit Team, along with Carole King and Gerry Goffin. As a solo artist, he recorded a string of Billboard singles between 1963 and 1971. His best known songs included "Hey, Girl" (1963), the R&B chart-topping "Are You Lonely For Me" (1967), "You Got What I Need" (1968) and "I Shall Be Released" (1970). He later hit the oldies circuit and released albums "Freddie Scott Sings and Sings" (1991), "The Best of Freddie Scott" (1998) and "Brand New Man" (2001). In 2003, he was a contributor to Van Morrison's "Vanthology" album.
