Robert McClenachan, Jr. (McClanahan, McClenahan) was a captain in the Army of Virginia and he fought at the Battle of Point Pleasant at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. He was killed by the Shawnees during this battle. He left a wife, Catherine (Madison) McClenachan, and 2 young sons, John and Robert, III

His name is on the Point Pleasant Battle Monument.
Robert McClenachan, Jr. was a captain in the Army of Virginia, and he fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. Killed by the Shawnee indians during this battle, he left his widow with a young son (John) and pregnant with another (Robert, III).

His wife, Catherine "Kitty" Madison, was a cousin tothe fourth U.S. President, James Madison, Jr.. After Robert's death, she married William Poague. Later, she married Captain William Arbuckle, who had served with Robert at Point Pleasant.

Robert's name appears with others officers buried in the magazine at the Point Pleasant Battle Monument. He is registered as a Revolutionary War patriot with both NSSAR (National Society, Sons of the American Revolution) and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).

Although some sources list his birth date as 19 April 1747, only proof of his christening currently exists.

His name is listed on the Point Pleasant Battle Monument as Robert McClenachan. His sons and their descendants modified spelling of their surname to McClenahan and McClanahan.
