Bertha Oline Banken was born on May 14, 1909 on the family farm in East Park Township, Marshall County to the late Ole and Birget (Jevne) Banken. She grew up and attended country school there.

Bertha was united in marriage to Hjalmer Carl Blackberg on April 20, 1926 at Strandquist, MN. The couple farmed in New Maine Township, Marshall County, MN until moving into Karlstad, MN in 1965. Bertha recently moved into the Karlstad Healthcare Center where she resided for a short time

Bertha is survived by one son, Morris Blackberg and his wife Joyce of Karlstad, MN; one daughter, Blanche Lofstrom of Karlstad, MN; eight grandchildren: Sheryl Foss, Joni Vacura, Wendy Hallberg, Daryl Lofstrom, Jana Johnson, Jennifer Hill, Vicki Ardoin and Kenneth Sorum; eighteen great grandchildren: Jerry, Cory, Jeremy, Darlene, Robert, James, Kathryn, Regina, Amanda, Ashley, Tiffany, Nicole, Rachel, Traci, Jason, Keegan, Aaden and Savannah; great great grandson Dustyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hjalmer on March 25, 1996; her parents; one daughter, Delphine Sorum; one granddaughter, Sandra; brother Fred sisters Randyne Shern and Clara Hansen; son in law Elmer Lofstrom.

Karlstad - Bertha Blackberg, 94, died on Friday, July 25, 2003 at Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30 (today) at the Johnson-Green Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls with Steven Spilde as the speaker. Casketbearers will be Lyle Blackberg, Edward Carlson, Dave Hansen, John Lofstrom, Lenny Lofstrom and Daryl Lofstrom. Interment will be in Opdahl Cemetery in New Maine Township of Marshall County. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the chapel on Wednesday.
