Genevieve Alice Norsdstrom was born on February 10, 1921 in Moose River Township, the daughter of Gustave and Frideborg (Bengston) Nordstrom. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith and attended Gatzke Elementary School and Middle River High School. Genevieve moved to Minneapolis, MN and started working for Honeywell and then she worked at Unitag, as a seamstress for several years, until her retirement.
She was united in marriage to Marlow Clyde Holien at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. The couple bought a house in south Minneapolis, near Roosevelt High School. While living in Minneapolis she always yearned for living the simple life up north, and moved to Thief River Falls in 1990.
Genevieve enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and had a talent for drawing. She loved birds, except the Black Birds, when they bothered other birds. She especially loved visiting with her neighbors and friends, eating Chinese Food and attending family gatherings.
She is survived by four children: Debra (Michael) Kellington of Battle Lake, MN, Sandra (Wayne) Hanson of Fridley, MN, James (Colleen) Holien of Hibbing, MN and Bruce (Mary) Holien of Vermillion, MN; eleven grandchildren: Kyle, Joshua, Aaron, Lindsey, Jennifer, Mike, Jackie, Kim, Chad, Vicki, and John; and eleven great grandchildren.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marlow, in 1985; one infant sister; and one daughter, Merolyn Peterson.
