Ervin Vigen, 86, died Thursday, December 2, 2004 at his home in Grygla.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, with Rev. Mary Ronning-Gilthvedt officiating. Casket bearers included Ervin's grandchildren, David Vigen, Paul Vigen, Leah Vigen, Ritchy Johnson, Scott Johnson, Stephanie Baumgartner, Andrea Poole, Andrew Paulson, Jaime Yaeger, Sarah Grabowska, Amber Grabowska, Dustin Grabowska, Lisa Vigen and Phillip Vigen. Interment was held at St. Olaf Cemetery in Valley Township, Marshall County.
Ervin Raymond Vigen was born September 8, 1918 on the farm where he resided in Eckvoll Township, Marshall County, the son of Bernhart "Bennie" and Caroline (Grovum) Vigen. He attended Eckvoll Country School and was confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church on February 16, 1958.
On April 12, 1941, Ervin was united in marriage to Alice Elaine Wold in Greenbush. The couple made their home on his parent's homestead, where he farmed.
Ervin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, served on the Grygla School Board for a few years, and the Co-op Store Board in Grygla. He also held membership in the Thief River Falls Eagles. He liked to play horseshoe, pool, cards, such as solitaire, pinochle, whist and smear. He played baseball into his 40's and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Grygla; children, Larry (Mayvonne) of Goodridge, Marcia (Russell) Johnson of Rosemount, LeRoy (Madelyn) of Thief River Falls, Susan (Gene) Paulson of Aurora, Patricia (Larry) Grabowska of Stephen and Howard (Mary) of Lakeville; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lucille (Ezra) Sullivan of Hemet, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; his parents; and his sister, Doris Stott.
