Jack was killed at Pearl Harbor in 1941. A corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, in a forward gun turret of the USS Arizona, when it was sunk at Pearl Harbor. A memorial was built over the ship's sunken hull, which is a grave for nearly 1,000 U. S. servicemen.

Instead, Mr. Sniff joined the Marines. He was a corporal, an anti-aircraft gunner and a bugler on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Mr. Sniff was born Feb. 22, 1922, to Martin Leo Sniff, a farmer, and Martha Hinman Sniff, a homemaker.
He graduated from Princeville (Illinois) High School in 1940. It was there that he learned to play the cornet.
His brother, Ralph, served in the Army in World War II and survived.
A memorial service was held in May 1942 at the Presbyterian church in Princeville.
