Glen , 85, died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 27, at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Pastor Sandra Hollands officiating. Gloria Sistad was the organist, and Mary Ann Lunsetter was the soloist. Casketbearers were Darell Severts, Marv Carlson, Raymond Aune, Richard O'Brien, Jerry Zimmerman and Greg Harris. Honorary casketbearers included Glen's many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Military honors were accorded by the Grygla VFW. Interment was in Moose River Cemetery in Rollis township of Marshall county. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Glen Julian Aune was born on March 29, 1916 in Grygla, the son of John O. and Gusta (Lian) Aune. He grew up in Gatzke where he attended a country school. During World War II, he served in the Medical Corp of the U.S. Army, entering at Fort Snelling and stationed in El Paso, Texas before serving overseas in New Guinea and the Philippines. After his military term, Glen began working at Land O'Lakes in Minneapolis, cleaning and loading trucks. After a short time, he returned to Gatzke where he and his brother, Juel, took over the family farm. They farmed together for many years, and during the winters, Glen worked for Ray McMillin in Florida, fishing and crabbing.
He was a member of United Lutheran Church of Gatzke, Grygla VFW, Fourtown-Grygla Sportsman's Club and Grygla Senior Citizens.
Glen enjoyed playing cards, deer hunting and especially, spending time with his family.
Survivors include a brother, Kenneth (Lila) of Grygla; three sisters, Esther O'Brien of St. Paul; Mildred (Fred) Paulson of Siren, Wisc. and Marvel (Clayton) Carlson of Thief River Falls; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Aune of Gatzke and Ione Aune of Grygla; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Juel and Olaf; two brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
