Grygla - David Sistad, 55, died on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the church with a 7:30 devotional service and for one hour prior to services on Thursday.
David Dean Sistad was born in Thief River Falls on February 4, 1948, the son of Arvid and Tillie (Johnson) Sistad. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla. He grew up and attended school in Grygla.
On February 10, 1968, he married RaeAnn Olson. Shortly after his marriage, David was drafted into the United States Army. He served 18 months in Vietnam and was honorably dishcarged in March 1974.
On November 7, 1970, he married Laurie Stahl. After his discharge, David worked for Bill Collins and Sons, Benson Construction, Arctic Cat Enterprises and was currently employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. For the past 21 years, David has shared his life not only with his two sons, but with the love of his life, Virginia Dahl and her two children.
David was a member of the Grygla VFW 3858 and the Grygla American Legion Post 162. David enjoyed spending time with Virginia, his children and grandchildren. He liked to mow the lawn, go camping, hunting and ice fishing, play bingo and cards, four-wheeling and visiting with all of his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Bernice Sistad of Grygla; companion, Virginia Dahl; sons, Chad (Shelly) Peters of Viking, Steve (Karen) Sistad of Grygla and Cliff (Gina) Dahl of Roseau; daughter, Angie (John) Lalim of Roseau; three grandchildren; brothers, Wally (Pauline) Sistad of Grygla, Jerry (Cheryl) Sistad of Grygla and Dale (Sherry) Sletten of Wasilla, Alaska; sisters, Gail (Ronnie) Kotrba of Goodridge, Deb Hanson of Thief River Falls, Carol (Merlin) Klamar of Gatzke and Jody (Mike) Kirkeide of Greenbush; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; plus Virginia's sister, Sonia Dahl, and brother, Jerome (Paula) Olson.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Tillie and father, Arvid; Virginia's parents; and an infant brother, Michael.
