Thief River Falls - Ernest H. Miller, 80, died Saturday, January 29, 2000 at Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1 at Pioneer Memorial Home Chapel with Rev. Kwen Sander-son officiating. Kim Mahlen was the pianist, and vocal music was provided by Rev. Sanderson.
Casketbearers were grandchildren Todd Muller, Sheryce Anderson, Barbara Theis, Tasha Lee, Steven Lee and Charlie Lee. Honorary casketbearers were caregivers and friends from Pioneer Memorial Home. Military honors were accorded by the Erskine Bailey-Throne American Legion Post 596 and the Thief River Falls VFW Post. Burial was in St. Olaf Cemetery in Grygla. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Ernest Herman Miller was born on April 29, 1919 in Pinewood, the son of John and Olia (Okeson-Skauge) Miller. He attended school in Pinewood through the seventh grade. He then worked as a lumberjack and later did construction work and snow plowing in Beltrami county. Ernest served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic in the air offensive battles in Europe, Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland region, Ardennes and central Europe. Following his discharge he returned to Pinewood.
On August 3, 1946 he was united in marriage to Fern Tollefson in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Pinewood before relocating to Portland, OR, Big Falls, Shevlin, Grygla and finally Thief River Falls in 1974.
Ernest was a life member of the American Legion Posts in Thief River Falls and Erskine as well as the Thief River Falls VFW Post.
He enjoyed hunting and baseball.
Ernest is survived by two daughters, Sue Muller of Thief River Falls and Sandra (Jon) Lee of Park Rapids; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern in December of 1986; one son, Lynn; four brothers, Tony, Carl, Alfred and Helmer Miller; and two sisters, Anna Olson and Inga Sorenson.
