Grygla - Sheldon H. Nomeland, 63, died Thursday, February 26, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Reverend Roberta Johnson officiating. Joy Norby was the organist and provided vocal music with Marie Anderson. Casketbearers were Gordon Moe, Harland Lee Jr., Tony Moe, Roger Kriel, James Moe and Jason Schuster. Burial was held at St. Olaf Cemetery in Grygla.

Pastor Dennis Raymond officiated at the 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home on Sunday evening.

Sheldon Harvey Nomeland was born on October 15, 1934 in Grygla, the son of Ole and Helen Josephine (Hanson) Nomeland. He attended school in Grygla and grew to adulthood there. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Sheldon worked for Keine Farms near Kennedy for a number of years and also worked in the mines on the iron range. He was in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1960. He returned to Keine Farms and worked there until he was employed by Arctic Enterprises. He was employed there until 1977 when he retired due to disability from injuries.

On February 27, 1971 Sheldon married Barbara Moe in Thief River Falls. The couple lived on a farm near Grygla. Sheldon moved to Thief River Falls in 1996.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, a member of the Eagles, a charter member of the Grygla Lions, and was very active in helping people in Alcoholics Anonymous.

Sheldon is survived by one son, Wayne (fiance Jeri Vandrovec) of Thief River Falls; his mother, Helen Nomeland of Thief River Falls; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Nordby of Blaine and Jill Moe of Menominee, WI; three stepsons, Gordon (Marcie) Moe of Grygla, Tony (Connie) Moe of Grygla and James (Lisa) Moe of Blaine; one sister, Wanda (Gerald) Schuster of Thief River Falls; three brothers, Jack (Elsa) Nomeland of Grygla, Douglas (Dolores) Nomeland of Thief River Falls and Donald Nomeland of Thief River Falls; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Joyce Olson; two nephews; and his grandparents.
