Leona Eileen "Lea" Ueland-Ranum entered into eternal life on Friday, July 6, 2007. The eldest child of Ole and Florence (Ranum) Ueland, Leona was born in her grandmother Martha (Nelson) Ueland's home in Viking, Minnesota, on Jan. 15, 1928. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1946.

In 1947 she married Donovan Richard LaCoursiere and they shared a life together for six years. She gave birth to their son, Gary, while living in Minnesota and to their daughter, Debra, in Kansas. In 1954 she traveled to Oregon where she married Paul Kenneth Ranum. Together they had five children.

Lea and Paul moved to Janesville, WI in November, 1957. In May, 1958 Lea and Paul established L & P Tree Service, which is still operated by their son Chris. As an Avon Representative, Lea was a member of the President's Club and a sales leader for many consecutive years. She was dedicated to her products and devoted to her customers, many of whom became close friends. She enjoyed reading gothic romances, listening to country music, and was a longtime fan of "As the World Turns." A wonderful baker, she often treated friends and family to her homemade breads and cakes. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville since 1957.

Lea took great pride in her family. She is survived by her sons Gary, Mark, Chris and Curt; her daughters Debra and Paula; by twelve grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grand daughters, and five step great-grandchildren.

Leona is also survived by her brother Russell Ueland and her sister Frances (Orville) Skadsem, by her sister-in-law Jacqueline Ueland, and by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Her former husband of 25 years, Paul Ranum also survives her.

In addition to her parents, Lea was preceded in death by her son Timothy Paul Ranum who died in 1960 at the age of four; by her brother Donald Ueland; by her niece Roberta "Bobbi" Ueland Brown; and by her first husband Donovan LaCoursiere.

Services were held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2116 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, on Tuesday, July 10. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home, 520 St. Lawrence Ave., Janesville, Wisconsin or to HospiceCare, Inc., 3001 West Memorial Drive, Janesville, Wisconsin.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of St. Elizabeth's, to Hospice Care, Inc., and to Dr. Frank Brodkey who cared for Lea with great love and respect throughout her illness.
