Clayton was born on October 20, 1925 in Bigwoods Township, the son of Andrew and Clara (Messelt) Oseth. He was raised on the family farm and he graduated from Oslo High School in 1943. He married Mary Ann Smith on June 21, 1956. On May 19, 1967, Clayton married Verna Chester McMartin. He was a hard working farmer during the summer months, driving a beet truck in the fall, and was a school bus driver for the Oslo public school. He experienced many floods living on the farm, but none ever harmed the beautiful home or his family. He was a life-long member of Bigwoods Church just a mile down the road from the farm, serving as church president several times. In 2007, Clayton and Verna moved to Thief River Falls.
Clayton enjoyed bowling, camping with his family and compiling family histories.
Survived by wife of 43 years, Verna; children Kent McMartin (Beckee) of Wasilla, AK, Merilee (Jeff) Watts of Waseca, MN, Michael (LeAnn) Oseth of Maplewood, MN and Diane Compeau of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Gretchen (Ben), Rachel (Brandon), Emily, Katy, Jenni, Christopher, Ashley and Kayla-Mae; great-grandchildren Addie and Drake. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry McMartin; brother, Ervin and sisters, Edna Sausser and infant sister Clara.
Clayton was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and expressed nearly every day how much he appreciated his family and the importance of being together as "one family". He will be sincerely missed.
