Mavis Johnson was born Mavis Elaine Mugaas, to parents Adelsten and Myrtle Alice Pearl (McDonagh) Mugaas, on November 8, 1930 in Gatzke, MN. She attended grade school in Gatzke and later graduated from Newfolden High School. She married Wallace Russil Johnson on November 13, 1948. They lived in Gatzke until moving to Greenbush in 1957. Besides raising her family, she did childcare, domestic housekeeping and worked for Dr. Mattson at the Veterinary Clinic in Greenbush. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and its ladies groups. She enjoyed gardening, reading and working with antiques.
She is survived by her husband, Wallace; two sons, Russell Johnson of Laughlin, Nevada, and Forrest (MaryLou) Johnson of Roseau, MN; two daughters, Barb (Jerome) Brazier of Alexandria, MN, and Karyl (Keith) Langaas of Strathcona, MN; twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; also her beloved friends "The Churchill Girls": Ginny, Kim, and Mary; two sisters, Janice (Phil) McClellan of Newton, North Carolina, and Adelyn Lundmark of Sulphur, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Carol Mugaas of Naples, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Marvin "Buddy" Mugaas, and Clinton Mugaas; two grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, Giovana Johnson.
Funeral will be held on Monday, March 1, at 10 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush, MN.
Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
Interment will be in Opdahl Cemetery in rural Newfolden, MN in the spring.
