Elmer Theodore Blackberg, 93, died at the C.N.C. Unit of Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, Friday, Oct. 26, 2001.

The son of the late Carl and Amanda (Persson) Blackberg, he was born May 7, 1908, in Foldahl Township, Marshall County, near Newfolden. He attended the former District #100 School near his home and grew to manhood in the Foldahl and West Valley communities.

On June 21, 1931, Elmer was united in marriage to Signe Mortrud at Thief River Falls. Following their marriage, the couple farmed south of Strandquist until 1957 when they moved to Hazelton Township of Kittson County, near Hallock. Signe died July 8, 1960.

On Sept. 3, 1966, Elmer married Evelyn Erickson at the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle in Karlstad. They made their home at Karlstad. Evelyn died Jan. 20, 1987, and Elmer has continued to make his home at Karlstad. He was a member of the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle and of the Karlstad Senior Citizens Group.

Elmer is survived by four sons: Lyle (Merice), Hoffman; Duane, Karlstad; Wendell (Carol), Edgewood, N.M.; and Larry (Dovina), Portland, Ore.; four daughters: Audrey Thunberg, Karlstad; Ivadelle, Mrs. George Schaffer, Blaine; Carol Marr, Benson; and Grace Barsness, Sacramento, Calif.; two step-daughters: Wanda, Mrs. Richard Elie, and Marilyn Erickson, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; one step-son: Kenneth (Pearl) Erickson, also of Phoenix; 43 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wife; his parents; three daughters: Eleanor, Elaine and Eunice; four brothers: Hjalmer, Victor, Willie, and Tilmer; and four sisters: Selma, Hilma, Freda, and Esther.

Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, Karlstad Baptist Church, Karlstad. Pastor Mark Hanson officiated.

Honorary pallbearers were Elmer's grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bruce Marr, Monty Blackberg, Pat Sjostrand, Brian Marr, Ron Thunberg, Tim Schaffer.

Interment was at Opdahl Cemetery, Newfolden.

Arrangements were with Collins Funeral Homes, Karlstad, Greenbush, and Middle River.
