According to the 1940 census for Soddy, Hamilton, TN, his parents were John Scott (b. 1896) and Marie Scott (b. 1894).
Crawford Edward Scott was born July 12, 1920, in Iowa. The family moved to North Kansas City, MIssouri, then a town of about 2,500, before 1930. His father, John Scott, was first a carpenter and then a contractor, and his mother, Grace Crawford Scott, a homemaker.
The son attended North Kansas City High School for two years, then worked for his father until he enlisted in the Marines on Oct. 11, 1940.
Mr. Scott was a gunnery private first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.
A parade was held in North Kansas City in April 1947 to initiate World War II veterans into membership at the local American Legion Post. The newcomers were called the Crawford Scott class in his honor. There is a cenotaph for Mr. Scott at the cemetery in Lowry City, Missouri.
Both of his brothers also served in the war -- John in the Army and William in the Marines.
