David Delton Evans was born June 18, 1918, in Louisiana. His mother, Nina Grantham Evans, was a homemaker, and his father, Warren Evans, a laborer at a truck farm.

The father died in March 1920, leaving the widow with three young children.

Young Mr. Evans began serving in the Fleet Marine Corps Reserves in New Orleans in 1935.

He enlisted in active duty on Oct. 11, 1940, and was a gunnery private on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

Mr. Evans was survived by his widow, Faye.
