26 October, 1940 assigned to HQ and Service Company, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Brigade, MCB Camp Elliott, CA. 28 April, 1941 promoted to Private First Class. 17 January, 1942 assigned to the 1st Casual Company, Guard Battalion, MCB San Diego, CA as a Private. 18 June, 1942 assigned to D Company, 1st Raider Battalion.
18 June, 1942 embarked USS Heywood (APA-6) at San Diego for movement overseas. 3 July, 1942 arrived at American Samoa. 11 July, 1942 arrived at Noumea, New Caledonia based at Mission St Louis.
23 July, 1942 embarked USS McKean (APD-5). Killed in Action on Tulagi in the Solomon Islands, 7 August 1942.
Next of Kin: Mother, Mrs Else K Hansen, #7, 4th Street, Hampton, Iowa. Father Karl K Hansen (1886-1963).
Initially buried in USAF Cemetery Tulagi his remains were not recovered after WWII.
Commemorated on Wall of Missing ABMC Manila Memorial.
