Oldest son of Francesco "Frank" Gallo and Annina "Annie" (Marinelli) Gallo. Enlisted USMC 23 December 1941. Served with Easy Company, Second Battalion, 5th Marines during the Guadalcanal campaign.

On 25 October 1942, Private Gallo was a member of a patrol ambushed by Japanese forces along the East-West Trail. He became separated from his unit and did not return to friendly lines. No trace of Gallo was ever found, and he was officially declared dead on 26 October 1943.
