Benjamin served as a Corporal, Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He resided in the District of Columbia prior to the war.

Benjamin was "Killed While A POW" of the Japanese during the war while a POW at Camp #1 - Cabanatuan 1-2-3, Nueva Province, Luzon, Philippines 15-121.

He was awarded the "Silver Star" and the Purple Heart.

His remains have not been recovered.
