OBITUARY
SANFORD RANUM, 59, OF VIKING RITES MONDAY
Funeral services for Sanford Ranum 59, of Viking were held Monday at 10 A.M. at the Zion Lutheran church of Viking. Ranum died unexpectedly Thursday (Dec. 2, 1976) evening at his home.
Rev. K. David Gabrielson officiated at the services. Mrs. Richard Ness was the organist and Mrs. Alvin Grandstrand sang two solos. Interment will be the Golden Valley cemetery, near Wannaska, in the spring. The Green Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Keith Ranum, Roger Ranum, David Ranum, Mike Johnson, Russell Gustafson and Melvin Matson.
Sanford Ranum was born July 15, 1917 in Golden Valley township Roseau county, to Alfred and Hulda Ranum. He received his lower elementary education at Wannaska prior to moving to the Viking community with his parents. He completed his schooling at Viking. Since then, he had been employed most of his working life as a heavy equipment operator. He never married.
Ranum was a veteran. He served in the U. S. Army for four years during World War II.
He was a member of the Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his stepmother, Clara Ranum; three brothers; Stanley Ranum, Thief River Falls; Lloyd Ranum, Viking; and Sidney, Ventura, Calif., and three sisters; Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Hodik, Thief River Falls; Mrs. Elmer (Isabel) Krohn, Willmar; and Mrs. George (Alice) Kezar, Warroad.
Also surviving are three step-brother; Maynard Ranum, New Market; Oscar Ranum, Minneapolis; and Oral Ranum Stanley, N.D.; two half sisters; Mrs. Sheldon (Delores) Forland, St. Paul; and Mrs. Delano (Margaret) Lind, Sioux Falls, SD; and one step-sister; Mrs. William (Marceline) Grundhaus, Thief River Falls
He was preceded in death by his parents.
