Actor. Born Karl Gerhart Fröbe in Saxony, Germany, he was most noted for his role as Auric Goldfinger in the James Bond movie "Goldfinger" (1964) and received the German honorary Deutscher Filmpreis Award for his performance. He gained fame in one of the first German movies made after World War II, in role as Otto Normalverbraucher for the film "The Ballard of Berlin" (1948). By the 1960s, he achieved International status appearing such classic films as "The Longest Day" (1962), "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machine" (1965), "Is Paris Burning" (1966), "Triple Cross" (1966) and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (1968). He continued performing in films until the 1980s and also made TV commercials for Mercedes Benz. He died of a heart attack at age 75 in Munich, Germany and was honored with a Gert Fröbe image German stamp in 2000.
