Andrew "Andy" Nesland, 87, died Friday, August 11, 2000 at the CNC unit at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Verna Christensen was the organist, and the soloist was Keith Christensen.

Casketbearers were Andrew Nesland, Jr., John Nesland, Steven Loisel, Mike Mitchell, Mike Loisel, Jimmy Loisel and David Loisel. Honorary Casketbearers were Jeff Widing, Keith Christensen, Clyde Christensen, Kent Christensen, Kurt Christensen and Kyle Loisel. Interment was in St. Olaf Cemetery in Valley township of Marshall County., MN

Andrew Nesland was born on September 2, 1912 in Beltrami County near Grygla, MN, the son of Gunder and Jaranold (Berg) Nesland. He grew up and attended school in Grygla. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Grygla Church. At the age of 15, Andrew moved with his family to a farm eight miles east of Thief River Falls. Andy farmed with his dad for a few years.

He married Frances Reller, and the couple had one son, David.

In 1954, he married Lucille Magner at the pastor's home in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls until 1957 when they moved to Chicago, IL where Andy managed an apartment building for over 17 years.

The couple returned to Thief River Falls in 1974, and Andy worked for Clyde Christensen farming, continuing to help until he was 80 years old. In April of 2000, he moved to Valley Home. In June, he moved to the CNC unit at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Andy was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and helping others. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and bowling, participating in leagues in Chicago and Thief River Falls.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Lucille of Thief River Falls; one son, David (Donna) of Peppetone, IL.; two daughters, Phyllis Louze of Cloquet, MN and JoAnn (John) Abruscato of Chicago, IL; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Frances; six brothers, Knute, Halvor, Sven, Ole, Tom and Targie; and three sisters, Engeborg, Inga and Tillie.
