Orlan Clayton Dahl, son of Emil and Pauline (Wolden) Dahl, was born Nocember 7, 1932 in Rollis Township of Marshall County near Gatzke, MN. He grew to manhood there and was baptized and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church in Gatzke where he was a life-long member.
He graduated from Middle River High School in 1950. Orlan served with the U. S. Army from 1956 until 1958 and was stationed in Germany and Lebanon.
He lived and farmed his entire life in Rollis Township with his brother Arvin.
Orlan married Eleanor Olson on June 22, 1974 at Middle River. He worked at the Minot Missile Site in the early 1960s and spent winter months doing mechanic work in his shop in Gatzke.
He retired from farming in 1997 following a stroke.
Orlan was a member of the Middle River American Legion Post, the Gatzke Sportsmen's Club and served as a director on the Midland Co-op Oil Association Board for many years.
He served on the Gatzke School Board, the Rollis Creamery Board and was the first president of the Marshall County NFO.
Orlan is survived by one daughter, Hope Dahl, of Minneapolis; four step-children: Nadine Duffy of Grand Forks, ND, Verlyn (Tracey) Olson of Warroad, Harlan (Shannon) Olson of Strathcona and Joan (Darwin) Klamar of Middle River; 11 grandchildren; three brothers: Elmer of Argyle, Arvin (Marvel) and Larry (Emma), both of Middle River; three sisters: Anna (Everet) Westberg of Thief River Falls, Mavis (Norman) Roppe of Strathcona and Janet (Duane) Lian of Grygla; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other ralatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Esther and Cora.
Honorary bearers were Mylan Abrahamson, LeRoy Lian, Roger Kilen, Gene Engen, Raymond Morrisey, Robert Lorenson and Harold Brandon. Casketbearers were Donavon Dahl, Delray Dahl, Kevin Roppe, Duran Olson, Duane Westberg, Robert Stevens and David Massof.
