Gerald was born in Grand Forks, ND on Oct 20, 1942, the son of Myron and Alma (Olson) Heggestuen. He grew up in the Oslo and Alvarado, MN area and attended Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.
He was married to Rita Strong and two daughters, Mona and Shelly, were born to that union.
Heggy was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and he completed several safaris to Africa. His trophies were displayed for a time at The Safari Bar in Stephen, MN which he managed. They were later donated to the Minto Museum and continue to be on display there.
He operated one of the first urethane foaming businesses in the Upper Midwest and was also a produce broker in the Alvarado/Stephen, MN area, as well a salesman for Seedex brand seed.
Heggy was a member of the Manvel American Legion Post #299 and New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado, MN. He had a large circle of friends and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his daughters; two grandchildren; brothers, Mike (Dolores) Heggestuen of Detroit Lakes, MN and Roy (Jeanette) Heggestuen of Chula Vista, CA; sister-in-law, Barbara Heggestuen of Minneapolis, MN; brother-in-law, Cal Nelson of East Grand Forks, MN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd; sister, Shirley and his beloved cat of 21 years, "Amigo".
