Henry's mother, Mrs. Henryetta Nolatubby, was living in Bakersfield, California at the time of his death. His father was James Nolatubby. The Nolatubby family lived in Oklahoma City in 1939.

Henry was a member of the 1939 graduating class of Chilocco Indian Agricultural School in Oklahoma. At Chilocco he was a member of Company C (Charlie Company) of 179th Infantry 45 Division of The National Guard. He is considered to be the first Native American killed in WWII.


Henry had enlisted in the Marines on 22 Jun 1940, in California, and after training was assigned to the USS Arizona, stationed in Bremerton, Washington, in December 1940.
