Actress, Journalist. The daughter of Vice President Walter Mondale, she had a noted career of her own. Raised in Washington, D.C., from an early age, Eleanor first attracted public notice by wearing a tuxedo to President Carter's Inaugural Ball. She earned a degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, campaigned for her father in his failed 1984 Presidential bid against Ronald Reagan, and began her radio broadcast career in Chicago in the mid 1980s. She was to move to Minneapolis and was later to break into television with NBC's "Today" show and on ESPN. She had a few acting roles, appearing in "Dynasty" and "Three's Company" as well as in the 1991 film "Drop Dead Fred." Romantically linked to a number of celebrities including actor Jim Belushi, Arnold Schwarzenegger, President Bill Clinton, and rocker Warren Zevon, she had two brief marriages before wedding jazz musician Chan Poling in 2005. Eleanor was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 2005 but returned to broadcast journalism after treatment; she died of a recurrence of her cancer.
