Betty June (Bortz) Gilbert, 83, of Reading, passed away August 18, 2017 in Penn State Hershey Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Roy Fies Gilbert. The couple were married 64 years before Roy passed in 2014.
Born in Reading on July 9, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Ellsworth E. and Violet (Wentzel) Bortz. She was employed with Hershey Food Corp., the former Luden's, as a machine operator for 36 years before retiring. Later she was employed as a nurses aide on a part time basis with Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Betty is survived by five sons: David J. and his wife, Deborah Gilbert, Roy W. and his wife, Debra Gilbert, Richard J. Gilbert, Ronald E. Gilbert and Brian K. Gilbert all of Reading, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a great great grandson.
She is predeceased by two brothers: Ellsworth J. and Richard A. Bortz and a sister: Kathryn H. (Bortz) Newmoyer.
Graveside service will be at 12pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in Forest Hills Memorial Park, 391 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. The funeral procession will form in the cemetery entrance at 11:30am on Wednesday.
