Robert Lindsay Adams, 88, of Land O' Lakes, FL, formerly of Springfield, IL and Naples, FL, died at 5:03 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his home.

Robert was born January 6, 1929 in Detroit, MI, the son of Edward M. and Johanna Straights Adams. He married JoAnn Casey on June 15, 1950 in Springfield.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired as a Brigadier General in 1989. He earned his bachelor's degree in Business from Western Illinois University. Following his career in the military, he was employed with several State of Illinois agencies, including Secretary of State, CMS, and IDOT. Robert was a member of K of C Council #4179 and American Legion Post 759. He enjoyed collecting coins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Dorothy Garfat, John Edward Adams, Mary Jane Curnutt, and Bette Nelch-Shofner.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Adams of Land O'Lakes, FL; daughter, Pamela (husband, John) Quinn of Land O' Lakes, FL; sons, Robert T. "Terry" (wife, Virginia) Adams of Irvington, NY and Michael (wife, Katherine) Adams of Springfield; six grandchildren, Kelly Rowe, Melissa (husband, Sam) Brown, Ashley Adams, Katherine "Karli" Adams, Conner Adams, and George Colman Read Adams; great-grandchildren, Ruby Rowe, Emilyn Rowe, Aubree Brown, Elliot Brown, and Bailey Adams; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry, Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz and Rev. Joseph Ring, concelebrants.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
