William Alfred King married Florence Elzada Jones in Hatchechubbee, Russell, Alabama on February 28, 1882. By 1900, he was living in City Point, in Brevard County, Florida, where he worked as a section foreman, supervising maintenance for Flagler's Florida East Coast railway. He was then transferred to Perrine in early 1904, where he supervised crews building the railroad down to Homestead. In 1907, he filed a claim for a homestead in Homestead, Florida. His property is where the Winn-Dixie shopping center is now located on N.E. 15th St. and Old Dixie Highway. King's Highway (N.E. 15th St.) is named after him.
