William J. Whitehead and his wife have CSA pension application paperwork on line in the GA archives virtual vault. Mrs. Whitehead shows proof of marriage as Lucy A. Malcolm to William Johnson Whitehead on Jan 18, 1867 in Clark County. She gives his date of death as Feb. 13, 1923 in Athens, Ga. In his paperwork he says he enlisted as a private in Company C of the 44th Ga regiment. On 4 May 1864, he lost part of his leg in the Battle of the Wilderness, VA.
