Charles Finnell (1762-1842) was born along Mountain Run outside Culpeper, Virginia. As a teenager in Washington's army, he was present at the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781 and said in his pension application that he knew both Washington and Lafayette by sight.

As a Baptist preacher, he helped found churches in both Kentucky and Missouri.

He is buried outside the village of Mount Airy in Randolph County, Missouri. His grave is marked with a DAR headstone.

I am one of Charles Finnell's many descendants.

Please contact me if you'd like to swap info or to correct biographies I may have gotten wrong.

I will happily transfer ownership of memorials of folks I'm not closely related to. Let me know.

Cheers!
