This is my uncle, Richard Monteith. He was a retired Navy JAG and an attorney.

Richard was the first child of Clyde Allen Monteith and Elda Hatt. Richard was born in San Francisco which is were his parents met and married soon after Clyde was discharged from the Navy in World War II. Richard has two siblings;Rebecca Monteith Kane preiously of Welches, Oregon and Keith E. Monteith of Portland, Oregon. His mother, Elda Hatt Monteith lives in Portland, Oregon.

Richard also met his wife, Nancy Jane Harvey in Newport, RI. Richard entered the Navy as an officer and went to law school during this time. He later served as a naval judge. Richard and Nancy moved several times during their marriage and Richard's career in the Navy, but soon settled in the Virginia Beach area.

Richard and Nancy have eight children: Rebekah, David, John, Adam, Michael, Rachel, Stephen and Daniel. The children are scattered around the United States and there are several grandchildren.

Richard was a faithful LDS man, and served in the Church in many different positions. He also served in the Stake Presidency. He had a firm testimony of the restored gospel and instilled the gospel teaching to his children. he was an excellent father.

RICHARD A. MONTEITH

Virginia Beach - Richard Alan Monteith, 53, a retired Navy JAG and a Norfolk attorney, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Rebekah, David, John, Adam, Michael, Rachel, Stephen and Daniel; foster-daughter Susan; son-in-law Geoff; daughters-in-law Heidi and Desiree; and grandchildren Christopher and Jack. A wonderful husband and father, he was greatly loved by his family as well as friends from church and the community.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Princess Anne Road and Edwin Drive, Virginia Beach, with burial at Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Smith Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
