J. D. Beebe died Tuesday After a Long Illness
J. D. Beebe, a resident of this section for more than forty years, passed away May 30 at his home in Lacy township after an illness of many months of cancer of the stomach.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning form the Lacy school with Revs. M. V. G[?] and Clark officiating at the services. Interment was made at the Cimarron Valley Cemetery northwest of Lacey.
John David Beebe was born in Henderson County, Illinois March 23, 1866, died in Lacy township, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma on May 30, 1933, at age of 67 years, 2 months, and 7days. Death resulted from cancer of the stomach.
He migrated to Sherman County, Kans. in 1886 and filed on a quarter section of land in 1888. He helped survey Goodland and handled the sills used in the construction of the court house in that city in 1889.
He was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Knight. Two children were born of their union. One son, who died at birth, was buried in the same grave with the mother, who passed away at the same time. The other child, a daughter [Bessie Beebe], died at the age of 8 years and 8 days and was buried in the Cimarron Valley cemetery, northwest of Hennessey, in 1892. [Bessie is allegedly in an unmarked grave in the same place as John David Beebe].
He later united in marriage to Miss Cora Welch, and came to Oklahoma in 1894. They located at Kingfisher. Ten children were born to this union - five boys and five girls. The eldest, a daughter, died in Colorado.
He was baptized by Rev. Bob Peman in the Smoky River in Wallace County, Kans. in 1900 and united with the Christian church and lived a faithful religious life until starvation compelled them to go to Oklahoma. Here he unite with the United Brethren church and the small congregation donated time, talent, and money to the construction of a church building eleven miles southeast of Lacy.
John Beebe, George Chartier, and Henry Gratner served as deacons of this church for a number of years. After this church ceased in its work, John Beebe, still believing in the fellowship of Christ Jesus and loving its work, associated with the members of the Lacy community and those of the Church of Christ. Although he never joined this church, he believed as to their faith of God and their church.
He leaves to mourn his dear wife, Mrs. Cora Beebe, four daughters - Mrs. Alta Baker, Mrs. Esther Fisher, Mrs. Loretta Fisher, and Miss Leona Beebe the last named of the home; five sons, David who is married, and Raymond, Francis, Guy and Othal, of the home and who with the daughter will be a great comfort to the mother; one brother, Ed, of Higgins, Tex., and and one sister, Mrs. Dora Zimmerman; also twenty-one grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of friends made during his long life.
