Born on November 14, 1922, in York, he was the son of the late Ralph and Erma (Edmonds) Gibbs. He was a graduate of West York High School and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II. Richard was a member of the American Modeling Association and enjoyed working with model planes, and was a life member of the York Art Association, serving as a past president.
In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by a son, Mitchell and his wife, Amy of Wrightsville; a daughter, Nada Christine Metcalf of Cumbria, England; son, Scott E. Gibbs of York; two grandchildren, Soren Mitchell Gibbs and Zia Camille Gibbs; as well as stepchildren and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403; or to the York Art Association, 220 S. Marshall St., York, PA 17402.
