York - Richard E. Gibbs, 88, died on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Lois M. (Goodling) Gibbs of York and the late Nada Jeanne (Zug) Gibbs.
Born on November 14, 1922, in York, he was the son of the late Ralph and Erma (Edmonds) Gibbs. He was a graduate of West York High School and attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II. Richard was a member of the American Modeling Association and enjoyed working with model planes, and was a life member of the York Art Association, serving as a past president.
In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by a son, Mitchell and his wife, Amy of Wrightsville; a daughter, Nada Christine Metcalf of Cumbria, England; son, Scott E. Gibbs of York; two grandchildren, Soren Mitchell Gibbs and Zia Camille Gibbs; as well as stepchildren and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403; or to the York Art Association, 220 S. Marshall St., York, PA 17402. Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, is in charge of arrangements.
