Ruth Evelyn Borden McClanahan, age 72, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol, Tenn. Ruth was born on March 1, 1940, to the late Curtis and Bernice Seyers Borden in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She was a member of Abingdon First Assembly of God, where she participated in the Women's Ministries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Compton and her second husband, Lester Lawson; her children, Mary Kathleen Compton and Tony Curtis Compton; three brothers, Ronald, Samuel and John Borden; and one sister, Frieda Keithline. Survivors include her husband, Holiday McClanahan; her children by marriage, Dr. Mark McClanahan and his wife, Irene Ultee, Debbie Bostic and her husband, Jeff, Michael Lawson and his wife, Loretta, and Nancy Hawkins; two brothers, Mark Borden and his wife, Diane, and Paul Borden and his wife, Edel; one granddaughter, Dustyn Gabrielle Compton; one great-grandson, Lyric Compton; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews by marriage. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Roger Williams and Pastor William Spann officiating. The burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The men of Abingdon First Assembly of God will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the funeral home.
