CARTHAGE – Eleanor C. Bachman, 96, formerly of 222 State St., died Saturday evening, December 1st at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a patient for several months.

Born on May 10, 1916 in the Town of Denmark, the daughter of Alvin & Ola Ruth McFall Coe. She was raised in Castorland and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1934. She worked as a secretary in several local offices before retiring from Climax Manufacturing in Castorland.

She married Chester S. Bachman on April 10, 1937 in Adams, NY. They made their home on Rte. 126 until his passing in September of 1969. She was an avid volunteer for several organizations including 16 years with local blood drives sponsored by the American Red Cross. She loved working with flowers and for many years grew her own flowers and operated a greenhouse out of her home.

She was known as "Mrs. B" to her many friends and residents of Long Falls Apartments and always had a welcoming smile.

Eleanor is survived by her son and his wife, Ronald & Janice Bachman, Hickory, North Carolina and her daughter and her husband, Marcia & Dean Bent, Carthage. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers Harry and Raymond Coe and her sister, Lillian Coe.

A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 5th in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A private burial will be held in Union Cemetery, Naumburg. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, prior to the funeral, from 3 – 5 PM.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wilna-Champion Transportation Association, 222 State St., Carthage, NY 13619.
